S4E10: ADHD: Misconceptions & Empowerment with Dr. Lisa Riegel

Season #4

What if the behavior we're calling "defiance," "laziness," or "lack of focus" is actually telling us something about a child's brain? In this episode of Diary of a Dreamer, I'm joined by Dr. Lisa Riegel for a powerful conversation about ADHD, executive function, brain development, and practical ways parents and teachers can better support children.

Dr. Riegel explains why ADHD isn't simply an inability to focus, how executive function develops through experience and practice, and why today's children may be experiencing more executive-function challenges. We also talk about practical strategies—including learning sprints, brain breaks, positive routines, unstructured play, and helping kids understand their own brains. Most importantly, we discuss how adults can shift from asking, "What's wrong with this child?" to asking, "What does this child need?"
